Hi, I’m Dynasti Hunt Harris, CEO + Founder of The Shift® and I’m here to walk with you on your journey to establishing equity and anti-racism as a foundational element of your business and workplace!
I started this journey naively, once believing that DEI and anti-racism practices were an automatic core function of any organization.
You build a business, you naturally create an environment of inclusion and belonging, right? Not so much.
The more I dug in, the more I realized this:
For millions of people, work, the place they spend one-third of their lives, doesn’t feel like a place where you can let your guard down. In fact, it can be a place that feels exclusive, inequitable, and lacking a safe environment to learn and grow.
I knew this had to change, not just for my workplace but for every workplace I could come in contact with. And I knew this change couldn’t happen at the surface; in order to be sustainable and not just turn into ” DEI” on the shelf, DEI needed to be embedded operationally at the core of every single team and workplace.
My team and I’s job?
To take on the incredible challenge of changing not just how things look or the rules people follow, but the way people and systems think, feel and interact with each other.
Inside our workplaces and out.
This is no small feat but every small step is important. We’re here to take every step with you.
DEI work is not designed to be a separate initiative, an afterthought, or something to do because it sounds nice. It is fundamental to a business becoming a place can work and thrive at.
The conversations we’ll have on this website, on Zoom, in person, and in my content will not always be comfortable and that is the point.
The comfort zone has only ever existed for some. In order for us truly operationalize DEI it will mean work requires that everyone who has been in their comfort zone is willing to step out of it to create a safer space for all.
Creating organizational shifts is an art and a science.
It requires listening more than talking, creating policy changes that impact behaviors and actions, and ultimately building trust by opening the hearts and minds of people and teaching them to think and behave differently.
It requires light bulb moments, deep conversations, and high-level facilitation so that you don’t start, checkboxes, and unintentionally create more harm along the way.
It requires mastery of team development, communication, and transformation work paired with a deep understanding of corporate mechanisms, work politics, leadership challenges, and human resources rules and regulations. Not to mention out-of-the-box thinking, curiosity, and the courage to ask “what if…?”
And, all of this must happen while the day-to-day operations of the business are running.
This is why partnership is important.
DEI work is not meant to be DIY’d and isn’t simple enough to copy and paste from an article into your policies.
This work is the work and we’re here to help you do it.
